Here are answers to your questions
Frequently Asked Questions
From what age can my child attend Montessori?
Children can attend our Montessori once they have reached 2 years & 6 months on or before the 1 st of
September. If only 2.6 years in the September, then this would be classed as non-ECCE and a monthly fee
will apply.
If joining in the September and your child is 2 years and 8 months or above, then you will be able to avail of
the free ECCE place. To check eligibility for your child on the ECCE program please visit Wicklow County
Childcare Committee website where they have an easy-to-use calculator using your child’s date of birth.
How do I book my child into Afterschool or Montessori?
Please complete our online contact form. We will then issue you a “Booking Form” and details around fees and deposit required (should we have availability for your desired start date). Please note, that a place is only confirmed once we have received a completed booking form and relevant deposit.
What are the opening times of your services?
Both services are open Monday to Friday.
- Montessori – 09:00 to 12:00
- Afterschool – 13:30 to 18:00
What lunch should I pack for Montessori?
We encourage healthy snacks and would suggest small sandwich, crackers, fruit and/or cheese. Water or milk (no juices please) and avoid any foods with nuts or nut traces.
What should I pack in my child’s Montessori bag?
Below are a few essentials we advise all our Montessori parents to pack.
- Spare clothes in case of any accidents
- Sun cream and sun hat
- Small, packed lunch along with water bottle (no juices please)
- A pair of wellington boots, these can stay in the child’s locker until the end of school year.
Can my child bring a toy or teddy?
We ask that children do not bring in favorite toys or teddies from home. The reason we have found is if they get lost or misplaced the child can become upset.
What schools do your collect Afterschool children from?
“St Mary’s & St Gerard’s NS” is the only school we provide Afterschool collections from.
What are your collection times for Afterschool?
There are two collection times from “St. Maty’s & St. Gerard’s NS”. The first is at 1.30pm and this facilitates classes from Junior Infants to Senior Infants. The second pick-up is at 2.30 and this is for 1 st class up to 4 th class.
Does your service offer ECCE and NCS places?
Yes, we offer ECCE places to all our eligible Montessori children. We also offer NCS for all Afterschool children along with Private Montessori children.
Is there an outdoor area for children to play?
Yes, we have a fully equipped safe garden area for both the Montessori and Afterschool children. Weather permitting, we try to get each group outside every day for fun, games and exercise.
Can my child attend if sick?
Any child (Montessori or Afterschool) who has had a high temperature, vomiting or diarrhea must NOT attend the service for at least 48hrs. This is to control infection and protect all other children and staff. Further details are provided in our “Parents Handbook” which is issued to all parents.
What is your Child / Teacher ratios?
Montessori is “1 to 11” and Afterschool is “1 to 12”. In our Montessori classroom we normally have 3x Teachers and in our Afterschool we have 2x Teachers.
What does a “Term-Time” service mean?
This means we follow the same school calendar as our local primary school “St. Maty’s & St. Gerard’s NS”. We are closed for Mid-terms, Christmas and Easter along with all public & bank holidays.
Does my child need to be toilet trained?
Yes, all children must be toilet trained before starting in Montessori. We do not accept children in pull- up’s and therefore recommend each child has a spare set of clothes in their locker should an accident occur.
Do you provide meals to the children?
No, our service does not have the facility to provide cooked meals.
- All Montessori children should bring a small healthy packed lunch each day.
- Afterschool children bring a lunch or even a cooked meal which we can heat up if required.
What type of Afterschool meal should I provide?
This can vary per child as some parents like to have a family meal in the evening. Therefore, we suggest a healthy range of snacks (in addition to their school lunch) like fruit, sandwich, pasta, yogurt, cheese or a meal from the evening before which we can heat.
What is the difference in your service compared to a creche?
Most creche’s are classed as Full-Time care whereas Enniskerry Montessori & Afterschool Care is Term- Time based. This means we provide Montessori for 3hrs per day and Afterschool for up to 4.5hrs. Term-time means we are open for 38weeks of the year and follow the primary school calendar. We are closed during all mid-terms, Christmas and Easter holidays.
Are you open on public or bank holidays?
No, our service is closed on all public and bank holidays.
Are your services available during the summer months?
